Adobe’s PDF is a portable file format that lets you create a document in one operating system and view it in the same form and manner in all other operating systems. For example, you can create a PDF file in Windows and view it exactly the same, without any change in format hp pavilion dv6000 battery, in, say, Free BSD. In Linux, it works the same way. If you have a PDF file, you do not need to play with it to make it compatible with your operating system, because it is compatible by design (the same goes for DV and DVI -Device Independent- formats).
There are a lot of PDF viewers that run in Linux. Okular, Gnome PDF Viewer, Evince are some of them. Of course you have the possibility to download and install Adobe’s Acrobat Reader, but I have to tell you that it is a proprietary format, it takes a lot of hard disk space to install, and opening the program is a little slow.
Linux Compatible Document FormatsMicrosoft Office Suite’s document formats- doc, xls, and ppt- are compatible with Linux given that the files are not overloaded with Microsoft-specific formatting. One example can be the use of pivot tables, which may look a little bit different when you open an xls file with OpenOffice.org (OOo). Other than those types of files, you will see that your files are carried to Linux without too much trouble. For about eight years I have been constantly exchanging documents between Windows and Linux systems, and I have not run into any difficulty so far. But, again Dell Inspiron B130 Battery, the documents did not include Microsoft-specific applications embedded. The good news is that OOo improved its VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) support in their 3.x release therefore you can find out that some basic macros present in your Microsoft Office documents can be run inside OOo.
Of course you will not have any problems with the images or music that may come embedded in the documents. However, for the music, you may need to install additional codecs. In that case Ibm Thinkpad X41 Battery, just make a quick Google search with your distribution and the file format you want to install.
